Campaign for the Nautilus

Whilst working part-time at Bournemouth's Oceanarium during my studies, I noticed that we were selling dead versions in the gift shop of the creatures that we had on display. After further investigation, I felt that there was a need to produce a visual campaign to raise awareness of the dangerous impact that the souvenir trade is having on vulnerable species' of marine life. The aim of the campaign was to prevent tourists from purchasing souvenirs crafted from shells by exposing the impact that shell farming is having on vulnerable crustaceans.

 

I produced an outdoor sand installation on Bournemouth Beach to target holidaymakers and to bring the problem onto the shores. The 'Sea Graves' were used as a vehicle for the campaign as they highlighted the severity of the issue and humanized the problem.
