Moving Pictures: Exploration and Discovery
Winner of the Patricia Tindale Legacy Award 2015 An animation produced to accompany a section of British author, Ian Leslie's speech: 'Curiosity, why our future depends on it.' I was inspired by how children respond to the physical qualities of materials as oppose to their intended functions and purposes. I wanted to apply this strategy to my own work and approach each object myself as if I were a child again, learning about these everyday objects and materials for the first time. I chose to use such ordinary and mundane subjects as I wanted to illustrate how colours, textures, patterns and shapes can stimulate our natural, instinctive curiosity and inspire us to become creative in any situation. This was my first stop-frame animation and everything achieved was self taught.
